In the same ballpark quality-wise, the 2019 Syrah 2 2 Tango (89% Syrah and 11% Graciano) is riper and more exotic, with lots of violets, bay leaf, game, and peppery notes as well as a core of dark fruits. Full-bodied, balanced, and just impeccably put together, it’s a seriously good Syrah to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years.
Vineyards include Larner, Caliza, G2, Slide Hill, Piazza Bella Vista, Kimsey
Syrah as a varietal is very consistent, and seems to have unwavering quality as it flourishes in a wide variety of regions and microclimates. Regardless of the weather or the vintage, Syrah always seems to have a lot to say. On the coast it is savory and structured, like bones it gives the wine its form. In the hotter regions Syrah is sexy, dark and flamboyant, like the flesh it gives wine curves and enhances pleasure. Blending the vast microclimates and personalities of Syrah into an Uber blend is very exciting to me. I have been lucky to work with dozens of Syrah vineyards over the past decade, and in my opinion it takes the sunny side as well as the shady side of the hill to make a complete Syrah. To me it is best represented by a symphony of microclimates, versus a single solo performer. It really does take 2 2 Tango. That is the inspiration for our 2019 Central Coast Syrah.
